Couple travels to Haiti within week of quakeFor most people, the time to volunteer to go to Haiti is yet to come. But for one couple at First UMC in Joplin, they have already been there and are back. Robert Rice and his wife Tamara went to Haiti five days after the quake struck, and stayed for a week. Tamara is an anesthesiologist. Robert was there for logistics. Haitian relief benefit concert at Morning StarMorning Star Church (MSC) invites the local United Methodist Community to a benefit concert supporting the United Methodist Committee on Reliefrsquo;s (UMCOR) relief efforts in Haiti. The free concert is being held on Saturday, January 30 at 7:00 pm and will feature Mark Roach. Mark, MSCrsquo;s worship leader, signed a national recording contract with Myrrh/Word Records in 2006 and released his debut project, Every Reason Why, in 2007. Life Song UMC celebrates anniversaryI wanted to touch base with each of you and let you know how our anniversary weekend went. We spent all week passing out flyers around the community and in neighborhoods in single digit weather and praying that the snow and cold wouldnt be as bad as predicted. On Saturday were able to provide services for well over 100 people and nearly 40 families! The amazing thing is that over 30 of these families dont have any church that they consider home.
